What Participants Are Saying About Redefining Health Since attending this most recent Redefining Health workshop, I can truly say that my life has been changed. This workshop opens your eyes, as well as your mind, to acknowledging the things happening around you. Too often, we become used to our experiences. The touch of your partners hand, the sounds of a child’s voice; we become comfortable with these senses and don’t give them the acknowledgement they deserve. This workshop reawakens you to these experiences. I think everyone should attend this workshop if given the option, I promise you will not be disappointed. Lindsay Cribbs, Undergraduate student and nanny I attended Redefining Health in early October. I attended for both personal and professional reasons. I am at a point in my life where I feel I am surrounded by illness. As a Nurse Practitioner, I deal with it every day at work. I am also working through chronic Lyme disease. I needed help with the struggles of a chronic medical condition, and burnout I feel with my work. Bob and Diane were very captivating. The ideas they presented from other global tribes and cultures were simplistic, yet profound framed in our modern American society. Anyone, no matter what age or season of life they're in, can benefit from attending this seminar. Redefining Health can help those with illness, those who are struggling in relationships, or anyone with uncertainties in life. I received many gifts during the two day seminar. Namely that, instead of viewing my illness as a cross to bear, I can now see the gifts it has given me. Without Lyme disease, I wouldn't have learned to take care of myself as well as I do now, I wouldn't be interested in integrative health as a means to further my healing and that of my patients, and I wouldn't have attended Redefining Health. I hope to apply what I learned at the seminar in my professional practice by pursuing a wellness model for healthcare, rather than simply accepting the disease care model that we now have. I will not soon forget what I have taken from this seminar. I hope to attend Redefining Health and other seminars in the future at Tai Sophia. What a gem! Erin Prokop, Nurse Practitioner

Saturday, July 27, 2013 - Sunday, July 28, 2013 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Course Description This program features information that Paul Pitchford has developed based on decades of healing and awareness practice. He applies this fresh approach to 21st century nutrition in his daily work with clients, as well as in the design of food programs, diets, and nutritional products. In this course, Pitchford will discuss how to cleanse toxins or purge parasites, choose whole food supplements, reduce or build up body mass, and overcome infections, arthritis, cancer or fatigue. Pitchford merges classical Asian tradition with modern nutrition to create a new and unique integrated awareness that puts contradictory health and nutrition research into a clear and workable perspective. Program Overview Using readings from Chinese Medicine and other ancient healing systems, participants will explore the inherent qualities of food and how these impact the eater’s physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Participants will be provided with a highly functional definition of Yin/Yang according to traditional Chinese clinical nutrition. This definition will include these energetic dimensions: - The 5 climatic excesses [Hot/Cold/Damp/Wind/Dry] as assessment tools and their nutritional components used for patient recommendations
- Other essential dimensions of Chinese medicine with dietary advisories:
- Strength [Excess/Deficiency]
- Depth [Interior/Exterior]
- Flow [Slippery/Obstructive]
- Weight [Light/Heavy]
- How traditional Chinese metaphysics and the Sattva concept of Ayurveda of India can be utilized to develop a clear and engaging understanding of ideal modern nutrition that enhances one’s vision of unity and compassion
- The Qi energetics system according to Chinese medicine and how the spleen-pancreas Qi model informs us of virtually all beneficial dietary habits.
- How obstructed liver Qi inhibits the entire digestive process and ways to smooth out liver Qi stagnation
- The nutritional aspect of stem cells elucidated via the Jing concept of Chinese medicine and metaphysics
Instructor Paul Pitchford studied and apprenticed with masters of pre-Revolutionary Traditional Chinese Medicine, nutrition, and Tai Ji and Chan (Zen) meditation. His landmark book, Healing with Whole Foods: Asian Traditions and Modern Nutrition (North Atlantic Books, available in 7 languages, including forthcoming Chinese and Korean translations), forms the foundation of his unique dietary teachings, which unify Eastern and Western therapies. For more than three decades, Mr. Pitchford’s writings, teachings, and consultations have inspired millions worldwide, including readers, students, and health practitioners. His work has become a primary impetus behind the most fundamental, clinically effective, and innovative dietary movement today, widely known as “whole foods nutrition.” He sees a universal shift to whole foods nutrition as essential for overcoming ecologic ravages to the Earth. Best known for his teachings on foundational healing, Mr. Pitchford emphasizes awareness practices, mindful exercises such as yoga and tai ji, and regenerative nutrition. He currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area of California. Fee: $295 General Public, $195 Maryland University of Integrated Health Alumni and Students
